A winter storm watch has been upgraded to a warning as the system prepares to hit Niagara Tuesday.

Environment Canada's Marie-Eve Giguere tells CKTB's Larry Fedoruk flurries will start Tuesday afternoon with 2 centimetres expected to fall.

Heavy snow starts later Tuesday night into the overnight period with another 10-15 centimetres in the forecast.

She says the storm system is very intense and fast moving.

Giguere says by Wednesday morning the storm will have moved on to Quebec.

She says there is also a risk of freezing rain or ice pellets especially areas close to Lake Erie.

Giguere says travelling Tuesday evening and overnight will be tricky with gusty winds and heavy snow.
