The Ontario SPCA is reminding pet owners of the dangers of leaving pets in hot cars.

They have launched a campaign called No Hot Pets with the return of the warmer weather.

The SPCA, in partnership with SPCAs and Humane Societies from across Canada are educating the public on the dangers of leaving pets unattended in vehicles during the summer months.

The Lincoln County Humane Society in St.Catharines is taking part.

Executive Director Kevin Strooband tells CKTB rolling down the windows is not enough in this weather and it's best to leave your pet at home.

He says most animals can't sweat and parked cars can quickly reach deadly temperatures, even on relatively mild days with the car parked in the shade and the windows slightly open.

If you observe an animal suffering in the heat, call 310-SPCA (7722) 24/7 or your local police.
