The province is set to start dropping more anti-rabies vaccine in the Hamilton area in its continued fight against the virus.

New numbers released by Hamilton officials  this week show there have been 65 cases of infected raccoons and skunks since December.

There have been four other cases in Haldimand Norfolk and one in the Niagara Region.

Natural Resources officials say they plan to begin dropping the vaccine baits early next month because the warm weather means the animals will be moving around more.

Raccoon rabies hasn't been seen in Ontario since 2005 and the ministry believes the virus was carried in by an animal that came from the U-S, possibly in the back of a tractor-trailer.
