Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he is outraged and deeply saddened by the loss of so many innocent victims in terrorist attacks today in Brussels.

Trudeau has issued a statement saying Canada stands by Belgium and is offering condolences to the families of the victims and those who've been injured.

Belgian officials say at least 31 people have been killed and 187 wounded in the attacks at the Brussels airport and a subway station this morning.

Trudeau says Canada will continue to work closely with its allies and the international community to help fight terrorism and to bring to justice those who are responsible for planning and carrying out what he calls ``these senseless acts.''

Speaking in Ottawa, Foreign Affairs Minister Stephane Dion said he has no reports of any Canadian citizens being affected by what he calls a ``black Tuesday.''

Dion says the attacks have strengthened Canada's resolve to fight terrorism.

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says the threat level in Canada will not be changed in the wake of the attacks, which has remained at medium since October of 2014.

In an advisory posted on its website early today, Global Affairs says Canadians in Belgium should exercise a ``high degree of caution due to the current elevated threat of terrorism.''

In Toronto, security and police presence was beefed up at the downtown Union Station.
