We are learning more about the man arrested by Niagara Regional Police accused of making child pornography.

The Anglican Diocese of Niagara has issued a statement following the arrest of 20 year old Leo Gough-Hope of St.Catharines.

Church officials say Gough-Hope, is a parishioner and children's ministry volunteer at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Thorold.

They say a police check was shared with the church in September of 2015, and it did not reveal any past criminal convictions.

The church says it is working with the NRP and offering pastoral support to parishioners as necessary.

Marni Nancekivell, Director of Safe Church, Volunteer Management & Screening says  "at this time there are no indications that any inappropriate behaviour occurred at St. John's."

Niagara Regional Police officers say they made the arrest following a month long investigation.

Officers in Grimsby along with the Internet Child Exploitation Unit started investigating back in December 2015, identifying a St. Catharines man as a suspect, along with a young victim.

Leo Gough-Hope is facing five charges, including luring a person under the age of 16 and making child pornography

He's being held in custody pending a bail hearing today.
