Pedestrian sent to hospital after St. Catharines collision

Niagara police investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck in St Catharines.

It happened around 5:00 p.m. yesterday at Lakeshore Rd. and Geneva St.

Police say a 33-year-old St. Catharines man was attempting to cross the street when he stepped into the path a Ford F250.

The driver attempted to avoid hitting the man, but he was struck by the front of the vehicle and thrown onto the road.

The 42-year-old driver of the Ford was not injured in the collision.
 
The 33-year-old pedestrian was initially transported to the Niagara Health System St. Catharines Site with unknown injuries.  The scene was held for several hours until it was determined that the pedestrian's injuries were life-threatening in nature, at which time he was transferred to the Hamilton Health Sciences General Site.  

He's in stable but critical condtion.
