Blue Jays fans  exploded onto the streets last night, after the team won its first post-season series in 22 years.

Thousands celebrated in a raucous but peaceful manner after Toronto beat Texas 6-3 in the decisive Game 5 of their American League Division Series.

That was different from the tempers that flared from the stands of the Rogers Centre after a controversial call gave the Rangers the lead late in the game.

Fans were chanting ``Jose, Jose, Jose'' in honour of Jose Bautista, who hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning to the put the Blue Jays into the lead for good.

Augustine Lanzarotta says he's been waiting 22 years to celebrate a Jays win in the playoffs  and cannot remember the last time they won in 1993 because he was only four years old at the time.

He says the city deserves a winner after the futility of Toronto's professional sports teams.

The Jays take on Kansas City in the  American League Championship Series starting tomorrow night.

Game Two is Saturday, then the series returns to Toronto on Monday night, election night.
