Fire officials say dryer lint was the cause of a laundry room fire in St.Catharines.
Fire Chief Dave Wood is says the fire on Mildred Street caused 10-thousand dollars in damage to the duplex but no injuries are reported.
Fire investigators said the dryer was missing its lint filter, allowing lint to build up inside the exhaust vent and causing the appliance to overheat to the point it caught fire.
The fire chief stated that the fire as ruled accidental but said residents need to make sure lint filters are in place and working properly.
Wood says you should clean lint traps before every load, use metal venting and ducting materials, make sure exhaust pipes are not clogged and dryer flaps can open and to turn the dryer off before leaving home or go to bed.
