A new sign may save you time if you travel over the Allanburg Bridge in Thorold.
Drivers travelling along Regional Road 20 towards the bridge now have signs to advise them as to when the bridge is up, so that they can make changes to their route if need be.
The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) announced today that new electronic signs have been installed on both sides of the Allanburg Bridge.
Both of the signs have been installed along Regional Road 20, with one of them located just west of the Highway 406 interchange and the other located at the corner with Highway 58 (Davis Road).
The new signs are the result of a partnership between Niagara Region and the SLSMC, with the aim of providing drivers with advance notice of bridge availability in order to reduce travel delays.
The signs will display a message indicating the status of the bridge (available / unavailable) along with a countdown timer indicating how long the bridge is expected to remain available, or alternatively, how long the bridge is expected to remain raised.
“We appreciate that the Allanburg Bridge is a key transportation link, and this initiative demonstrates our continuing commitment to listening to our local communities and responding to their needs” said the SLSMC’s D’Arcy Wilson, General Manager of Operations.
