In a just released media notice, the province announcing it will be extending the GO Train network by nearly 20 kilometers from Oshawa to Bowmanville

Its also building four new stations to give people in Durham more transit options and to help drive economic growth and job creation.

In the spring budget, the Wynne Liberals hinted at the possibility of expanding GO to both Bowmanville and Niagara

A line in the budget called the expansion of GO service to the two communities, the “next generation of infrastructure investments”.

In this morning's release, the province say it is working with CP Rail on using its lines to expand the service into Bowmanville.

Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca says one of the biggest components of the GO expansion will be construction of a new train bridge over Highway 401 in Durham Region.

The plan is to have four GO trains each morning and four each afternoon in and out of Bowmanville when the service starts in eight years.
