The first stage of construction is underway on a 139 million-dollar project that will ultimately see Hamilton Harbour delisted as an environmental "area of concern.''
Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger was among those who took a boat tour of Randle Reef, where toxic sediment is being trapped within a containment structure.
Federal Environment Minister Catharine McKenna and Ontario Environment Minister Glen Murray also got a first-hand look at the project from aboard the Harbour Queen yesterday.
The containment structure is being funded equally by all levels of government and will take several years to complete.
