Police say the lockdown is being lifted about four hours after reports of a suspicious person closed a number of government and university buildings in downtown Toronto.

Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook says an Emergency Task Force has declared that the scene, near the University of Toronto and Ontario's provincial legislature, is all clear.

They're removing police tape and re-opening the closed buildings, but some of the road closures will remain in effect.

Police say they haven't found the person who was reported, and nobody was injured in the course of the investigation.

Toronto's chief of police said Monday afternoon that there had been multiple reports of a suspicious person in the neighbourhood around Ontario's provincial legislature.

He said there was one unconfirmed report that the man was carrying a firearm.
