A tribute on Canada Day to the Tragically Hip.
CKTB's brother station, 97.7 HTZ-FM is planning a tribute starting at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 1st called The Hippest Canada Day Ever.
The station will play all 13 studio albums found in The Tragically Hip discography, plus a selection of live recordings, and interview clips.
Program Director Jeff Winskell says The Tragically Hip traditionally play a Canada Day show every year, but due to the current circumstances, it looks like they won’t be playing one this year.
He says they really want to do something special on Canada’s birthday as a tribute to one of the country’s greatest musical treasures.
In light of recent news of lead singer, Gord Downie’s illness, this year will likely be the last set of tour dates for The Tragically Hip.
Winskell says without a Niagara date on the docket, HTZ-FM will send their love over the airwaves on July 1, 2016.
