Two Niagara Regional Police officers locked themselves in a hot car this afternoon.
Constable Phil Gavin and Constable Virginia Moir lasted 10 minutes inside the sweltering cruiser parked outside the Lincoln County Humane Society in St.Catharines.
Kevin Strooband from the LCHS was onsite to discussing the perils of locking pets in closed cars to promote the Ontario Humane Society's campaign "No Hot Pets."
Mayram Traub from Niagara EMS was also onsite talking about how dangerous it is for children to be left in cars.
Gavin telling CKTB right away it felt like a furnace and putting the window down didn't help.
Gavin has advice for residents if they come across a person or pet in a hot car.
He says access the situation first and start timing it.
If you feel the person or pet is in distress call 911.
He says instead of throwing a brick through a window, you could check to see if the doors are unlocked.
Gavin says they treat calls of people or pets in hot cars as a priority incidents and they will respond right away.
You can also call 310-SPCA if you see an animal in distress.
