St.Catharines is encouraging residents to spring into home safety at Fun Fest.

Fire Services and the Real Canadian Superstore invites the community to spring into fire safety at the Community Safety Fun Fest on Saturday, May 28th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Superstore parking lot at 411 Louth St.

The free event offers a chance for families to meet firefighters for a day of fun and learn about the important roles of other community organizations, including the Canadian Red Cross, Horizon Utilities and Enbridge.

There will be loads of activities for everyone to enjoy, including a free barbecue, games such as target shooting with a real fire hose, bouncers and more.

Children can enjoy rides on CN Rail’s Obie the Safety Train.

“Fun Fest is becoming something St. Catharines families look forward to every spring,” said Fire Chief Dave Wood. “We do, too. It’s a great chance for children and families to meet and get to know emergency responders in a friendly, fun atmosphere and for us to talk about what they can do to keep themselves safe, like maintaining smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms and being safe with fireworks.”

There will be fire trucks and other heavy-duty trucks on site.

Firefighters and other emergency responders will stage safety demonstrations.

The event takes place rain or shine.

Firefighters will also collect food donations for Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold.
