Parents in Niagara are being told to talk to their kids about drugs and watch for signs of drug use after four high school students were taken to hospital.

At noon today emergency officials were called to Denis Morris Catholic High School.

Upon arrival, paramedics treated four students who had ingested a prescription medication that had not been prescribed to them.

As a precaution, all four were transported to hospital for assessment.

Officials say while this appears to be an isolated incident, and it is believed that all students who took the medication have been treated, parents who have concerns that their child appears to be exhibiting signs of having ingested a medication are asked to not hesitate to call 911.

The medication is a part of the anti-depressant family.

The Niagara Catholic District School Board, Niagara Emergency Medical Services and Niagara Regional Police Services would like parents to take this opportunity to have an open conversation with their children about the dangers of taking medications that have not been prescribed for them.
