Provincial police say there's been a 30% spike in impaired driving charges issued in the Greater Toronto Area in the first seven months of the year.
The OPP says its Highway Safety Division laid 1,020 charges of impaired driving or driving over the legal limit in the Greater Toronto Area between January 1st and August 1st - up from 776 in the same period last year.
But it says overall alcohol-related charges throughout the province dropped by about 11%.
The OPP also says alcohol-related collision fatalities are down this year by over 40% to 19 deaths from 34 last year.
