The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation has announced plans to add the two Niagara Falls Casino's to it's modernization procurement process.
The move means the OLG has notified Falls Management Group that they will not extend their current operating agreement beyond its initial term which wraps up in June of 2019.
The move is something Niagara Falls City Council has been asking for since 2013.
The City has sent two separate resolutions to the OLG, the most recent in May of 2015, asking that the two Niagara Casino's be included in modernization plans by establishing separately managed, rebranded operations, redevelopment of the two resort casino's and allow additional gaming sites in Niagara Falls.
In a release, the OLG estimates it'll take up to three years to procure a service provider for the Niagara Gaming Bundle and enter into new operating agreements.
The OLG expects to release a request for pre-qualification this summer.
At approximately $2 billion annually, OLG provides the Ontario government with its largest source of non-tax revenue.
Modernization will help OLG provide more money to Ontario for key government services.
