Transport Canada is ordering Nissan Canada to do more to notify owners of certain vehicles about a potentially dangerous defect.
Two years ago, Nissan recalled more than 22-thousand 2005 and 2006 X-Trail SUVs because faulty coatings in the fuel reservoir filler pipe could result in a leak.
Transport Canada is worried the defect has not been corrected in enough of the vehicles, and that Nissan isn't doing enough to warn owners.
Using authority that became law last year, the department is ordering Nissan Canada to identify and contact current owners of the affected X-Trails.
