UPDATE: Special Weather Statement issued for parts of Niagara

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for St.Catharines, Grimsby and North Niagara.

Environment Canada saying, a band of lake effect snow will hit the region during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Snowfall amounts will range from 4 to 8 centimetres locally over areas affected by the snow bands to a dusting in areas that receive only occasional flurries.

Strong and gusty winds will also whip up any freshly fallen snow, resulting in low visibility in occasional blowing snow.

The lake effect snow bands will likely affect the afternoon commute.

Motorists should be prepared for rapidly changing and suddenly poor winter driving conditions, as low visibility in blowing snow or bursts of heavier snow are possible.

In south Niagara, flurries also continuing tonight with 2 centimetres in the forecast.
