Grimsby's Carnegie Commons Building is getting 360-thousand dollars in federal funding.

MP Dean Allison made the announcement for the restoration of the building which opened in 1912.

The funding was provided through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, and will enable the Carnegie Building to continue serving the residents of Grimsby for more than a century as a library and public meeting and performance space.

Restoring the Carnegie Building will further allow this important heritage landmark to provide a public space that is accessible to pedestrian traffic, while also allowing for a fuller integration and use of the building as a Library-Art Gallery Complex.

Grimsby Mayor Bob Bentley says the funding will support the town's plans to restore and bring new life to the significant heritage landmark and make it accessible to all residents so that it may enjoyed for another 100 years.
