Another day of heat warnings in effect for Niagara

This is the third day we are dealing with heat warnings in Niagara.

Environment Canada says hot and humid conditions will moderate slightly today.

Daytime highs are expected to reach 30 once again however humidity levels will be lower.

Forecasters saying you should watch for symptoms of heat illness, which include - dizziness or fainting, nausea or vomiting - headache - rapid breathing and heartbeat - extreme thirst and - decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine.

If you experience any of these symptoms during extreme heat, immediately move to a cool place and drink liquids.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Meantime, in response to the heat alert issued by Niagara Regional Public Health, residents can seek relief at the following city facilities today:

Splash Pads (extended hours)

Catherine Street Splash Pad 64 Catherine St.
Pearson Park Splash Pad - 352 Niagara St.
Thursday, July 30: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Pools (extended hours)
Burgoyne Woods Pools 30 Edgedale Rd.
Thursday, July 30: 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. to dusk

Lincoln Park Pool - 63 Chetwood St.
Thursday, July 30: 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to dusk

Lion Dunc Schooley Pool - 32 Seymour Ave.
Thursday, July 30: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to dusk

Port Dalhousie Pool 205 Main St.
Thursday, July 30: Small pool - 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.; 5:30 p.m. to dusk Large pool 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

In addition to remaining in cool areas, residents are advised to take extra precautions, such as frequent breaks in cool and shady areas, plan activities during cooler parts of the day and evening and drink plenty of fluids.

Residents are also encouraged to check in on family, friends and neighbours, especially those susceptible to heat-related illness.
