As work continues on the Burgoyne Bridge in St. Catharines, a stretch of the 406 will be closed for an entire weekend.
Friday November 6th at 10pm the highway will be sealed off from Westchester to Fourth Avenue until Monday November 9th at 6am.
The closure will allow crews to tear down the existing Burgoyne Bridge over the 406.
Traffic will be detoured on Hwy 406 using Fourth Avenue, Ontario Street and Westchester Crescent. There will be turning restrictions in place along the posted detour and major intersections will be controlled by OPP and Niagara Regional Police during peak traffic times.
Residents in the Yates Street neighbourhood will only be able to turn left onto Ontario Street at Salina Street. Salina Street will be police controlled during the hours of 10am to 3am inclusive.
Limited access to the downtown core will be available off of Ontario Street for the duration of the closure. Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes.
As a contingency plan, Fourth Avenue eastbound movements across 12 Mile Creek to Ontario Street may not be permitted for local traffic during peak periods and high traffic volumes. These contingency plans may be implemented to ensure the safe movement of both pedestrians and vehicles through the designated detour route and for vehicles using Hwy 406.
The Burgoyne Bridge and St. Paul Street West will remain open during the closure.
