According to sources this morning, senior vice president of baseball operations and general manager, Alex Anthopoulos is leaving the Toronto Blue Jays.
The move comes less than a week after the Jays were eliminated from the post-season.
The stunning departure comes with the pending arrival of Mark Shapiro, who was hired August 31st and is set to takeover as president and CEO from Paul Beeston on Monday.
The Montreal-born 38-year-old was promoted from assistant general manager to the GM job on Oct. 3, 2009 after the firing of J.P. Ricciardi.
No word yet on why he decided to leave the team.
