Legalizing marijuana would be a huge benefit to the Niagara Region as a whole.
That's coming from the President of Tweed Farms in Niagara on the Lake.
Angus Footman says once the Liberals legalize marijuana as they promised to do in the Federal Election campaign, they are prepared to quickly increase their capacity.
Footman says at this point the facility employs 23 people but that number would likely double if not triple once their production ramps up.
He adds more employees means more money being spent in the region and also means the money being spent on recreational marijuana goes back into the community through company taxes as opposed to the black market.
During the election campaign, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau said a Liberal government would begin working to legalize and regulate marijuana "right away".
The Liberal Party Leader declined to set a firm timeline for legalization, but vowed to make it an early priority.
He said legalizing marijuana would fix a "failed system" and help "remove the criminal element" linked to the drug.
